How to Close a Craigslist Account
Craigslist allows you to post and read classified advertisements from a variety of categories and geographic locations. While you don't always need one in order to use the site, a Craigslist account allows you to manage your posts more efficiently and to post paid advertisements. When you're finished using Craigslist, or if you'd like to stop receiving its emails, you may want to close your account. Craigslist does not feature this functionality, unfortunately, so you must take another route to sever your ties to the website.
Click "My Account" in the menu to the left.
Enter your email address and password, then click "Log In."
Click "Settings" in the menu at the top of the website.
Click "Change" next to your email address.
Enter and then re-enter a dummy email address that's different from your own. You can create a dummy account in fewer than five minutes at any of the free email providers, such as Hotmail, Yahoo! or Gmail, and associate that address with Craigslist so that your actual address no longer receives Craigslist-related emails.
Open the email that Craigslist sent to your dummy email account. Click the link in the email to reactivate your Craigslist account with your new email address.
Tips & Warnings
- Alternately, enter a fake, nonsensical email address, one that no one in the world would possibly have. You won't be able to reactivate the Craigslist account with the false email address, but your old email address will no longer be associated with the Craigslist account.
