How to Close Apps Running in the Background on the iPad
Application multitasking on the iPad allows users to run multiple programs simultaneously. This way you can switch back and forth between apps without having to quit any particular program. Close apps running in the background on the iPad to conserve battery power. You can view all your iPad's background applications in the device's multitasking status bar.
Press your iPad's "Home" twice. The multitasking pane opens at the bottom of the display.
Touch and hold the icon of one of the apps displayed in the multitasking pane until it starts to jiggle.
Tap the "X" symbol on the icon of the app you want to close. Repeat this for each app in the pane you want to close.
Press the "Home" button to return to your normal home screen.
