How to Code RCA Remote Controls

By Andrew Smith

Your RCA remote control must be programmed before you can use it with your television set or other devices, such as a DVD player or cable/satellite box. Every RCA remote control comes with a code the user can enter to program the device. If you cannot locate the code, you can still program the remote control using the “Code Search” option.

Manually Enter Code

Step 1

Turn on the device you'll be using with the RCA remote control (such as a TV, cable box or DVD player).

Step 2

Hold down the “Code Search” button located on the RCA remote control.

Step 3

While continuing to hold down the "Code Search" button, press the button on the remote that corresponds to the device you turned on in Step 1 (such as the “TV” button).

Step 4

Type in the code for the RCA remote control. You can find this code in the user manual for the remote.

Step 5

Let go of the “Code Search” button.

Step 6

Press the button for the device you turned on in Step 1 and try to control the device with the remote. If this doesn't work, restart the programming process and try a new code.
