How to Completely Close Your Apps on the iPod Touch

By Catherine Hewson

If you have iOS 4 or higher on your iPod touch, you can take advantage of a variety of new features, such as the ability to multitask or having multiple apps open at the same time. Although having multiple apps running in the background on your iPod touch can be useful, you may want to close these apps completely to speed up your device. By double-pressing the correct button on your iPod touch, you can completely close your apps.

Step 1

Press the "Home" button to exit the app. Note that the app is still running in the background and is not completely closed yet.

Step 2

Tap the "Home" button on the bottom of the iPod Touch twice to show the list of apps running in the background. Swipe to the left or right side to locate the app you want to close completely.

Step 3

Tap and hold down your finger on the app that you want to close until the app begins to move.

Step 4

Select the red "-" sign to close the app completely. Repeat this step to close any other app that is currently running.

Step 5

Press the "Home" button twice to return to your iPod's home screen.
