How to Completely Uninstall a Program on Mac

By Jason Taetsch

The Mac operating system does not require uninstaller utilities like other operating systems. Mac OS X stores all the program files for a piece of software in one location, making the removal process straightforward and simple. To completely uninstall a program, you use the same process as if you were simply deleting a file.

Step 1

Click the "Finder" icon on the dock.

Step 2

Click the "Applications" entry to display a list of the programs installed to your Mac.

Step 3

Click on the name of the program you want to uninstall, and drag it onto the "Trash" icon on the dock.

Step 4

Type in the master password for the computer in the prompt that appears and click "Continue" to uninstall the program from your Mac.

Step 5

Restart your computer to complete the removal process.
