How to Connect a PC or Mac to AppleTV

By Calum Page

Apple TV streams online content to your high-definition TV. It also has the capability to connect to iTunes on your computer and stream your personal media collection, including movies, music and photos. Before you can do this, you need to connect your Apple TV to your computer using your home network. It works with both wired and wireless networks, as long as both devices are connected to the same network.

Step 1

Turn on your Apple TV, and make sure that it's connected to the same network as your computer.

Step 2

Open iTunes on your computer, and click "Advanced" in the menu bar. Select "Turn on Home Sharing" from the menu.

Step 3

Enter your Apple ID and your password, and click on the "Create Home Share" option.

Step 4

Go to "Computers" on the Apple TV main menu using the directional buttons on the Apple Remote. The only option in this menu will be "Turn on Home Sharing." Click the center button on your Apple Remote to select it.

Step 5

Enter your Apple ID in the first screen that appears, and your password in the next one.

Step 6

Select "Yes" in the next screen to confirm that you want the Apple TV to access your iTunes Store account, or "No" if you don't want it to.

Step 7

Go to "Computers" on the main Apple TV menu, and use the up and down directional buttons to select your computer from the list. You can now browse through the media in iTunes on your computer with Apple TV.
