How to Connect a Toshiba Laptop to a TV RGB
Toshiba laptop computers can connect to an external monitor for viewing on a larger screen by hooking up a VGA (video graphics array) cable from the port on the computer to the monitor. Connecting a Toshiba to a TV with RGB (red, green blue) component video jacks requires an adapter available from electronics and computer stores. The adapter unites the two different types of video cables and converts the VGA signal into a digital RGB signal that can be processed on the TV.
Things You'll Need
- VGA cable
- VGA to RGB adapter
- RGB component video cable
Push the four-sided VGA plug onto the Toshiba VGA port with the wider end of the plug turned upward so that the 15 metal pins within the plug will fit into the corresponding holes in the port. Secure the cable to the port by tightening the threaded bolt on each side of the VGA plug.
Attach the other end of the plug to the port on the adapter in the same manner, tightening the lock bolts clockwise to hold the cable securely.
Connect the red, green and blue plugs on one end of the RGB component cable to the matching color jacks on the adapter.
Insert each of the three plugs on the other end of the component video cable into the RGB jacks on the back of the TV.
Press and release the TV remote control "Input" button until the Toshiba desktop displays on the television.
Tips & Warnings
- Use the Toshiba laptop's built-in speakers or connect a pair of computer speakers to the laptop's headphone jack. The VGA-to-RGB connection only transmits video.
- Unplug the TV power cord and shut down the Toshiba while connecting the equipment.
