How to Connect a Wireless Mouse Without the CD

By Greyson Ferguson

When connecting a new mouse to your computer, you typically need to install a driver in order to inform the system how to use the equipment. If you do not have the CD readily available, the manufacturer often provides drivers through a support website. The driver is free of charge, and due to its small file size, only takes a few moments to download to your computer.

Step 1

Open your Internet browser and navigate to the wireless mouse's manufacturer's website.

Step 2

Select "Support," then choose the specific model of mouse you purchased. This leads you to a page dedicated solely to the mouse.

Step 3

Choose the "Drivers" option, then select your operating system and click the download link provided. The exact phrasing differs slightly, depending on the website you are using. Wait for the driver to finish downloading.

Step 4

Double-click the downloaded driver, then follow the prompts of the installation wizard to completely install the driver.

Step 5

Power on the wireless mouse and the computer is now able to detect and understand the hardware. Restart your computer so that your computer fully recognizes the new hardware.
