How to Connect Outlook Calendar & Google Calendar
Using two different calendars to keep track of appointments becomes an issue if you can't synchronize the two. There's no need to miss appointments because you updated your Google Calendar but never put an appointment on your Microsoft Outlook calendar. There are two options to updating your calendars so you never miss another appointment. Subscribing to Google Calendar with Outlook gives you one-way synchronization, and it's possible to do two-way synchronization with Google Calendar Sync.
Subscribe to Internet Calendars
Log in to Google Calendar, and click "Settings" underneath the calendar you want to connect to Outlook.
Scroll down to "Private Access," and click the "ICAL" button. Copy and paste the link that pops up. Do not click it or it won't subscribe your calendar.
Open Outlook, click "Tools" in the menu bar and select "Account Settings" from the menu.
Click on the tab "Internet Calendars," and choose "New" to get a pop-up box for the Google Calendar link you copied earlier.
Paste the Google Calendar link into the text box, and click the "Add" button. Give the calendar a name under "Folder Name" and click "OK." This adds your Google calendar to Outlook and only updates the items you post to Google into your Outlook calendar.
Google Calendar Sync
Download Google Calendar Sync from Google, and either save or run the application, depending on the browser you're using. If you saved the file, open it to begin the installation process.
Review the Terms of Service for Google Calendar Sync, and click "I Agree" and "Install" to complete the installation process.
Type in your Google email and password in the text box area provided. Choose the type of synchronization you want by selecting the radio button next to it. Two-way updates both your Outlook calendar and Google calendar with each other, no matter which one you update. The one-way options only update from one calendar to the other, depending which one you choose.
Set how often you want the calendars to sync, and click "Save." The calendar icon for Google Calendar Sync shows in your task bar near the time. Two arrows display on the calendar when it synchronizes. To change your settings, double-click the calendar,
Tips & Warnings
- Exporting your calendar information manually, to import into the other calendar, only moves your appointments. It doesn't connect the calendars for automatic updates.
- Google Calendar Sync does not work with Windows XP 64-bit at this time.
- Tasks do not synchronize with Google Calendar Sync.
