How to Convert a TIFF File to a PDF File in Adobe

By Ann Johnson

TIFF is an acronym for Tagged Image File Format. A TIFF is an image file often used for photographs or line art. PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format. PDFs are commonly used for document exchange. They can be emailed to a recipient or uploaded online to allow others to open and print out the document. Because of their design, PDFs are not easily edited by their recipient. They require a reader, such as Adobe Reader, to open. Adobe Reader is a free download.

Step 1

Open your TIFF image file in Photoshop. Click on "File," then "Open" in the menu that opens. A window will open showing the files on your computer. Locate the TIFF to convert and click.

Step 2

Click on "File," then "Save as" in the menu that opens. After you open your TIFF file, you will save it as a new PDF file.

Step 3

Choose the PDF format by clicking on the "Format" drop-down menu in the "Save As" menu.

Step 4

Click "Save" after you change the file format to PDF. A series of window menus will pop up. To create a new file, read each window and click "Yes" to create. Remember where the file is being saved in your computer so you can easily find it.

Step 5

Click on the PDF icon to open the PDF. After you close Photoshop, go to the file on your computer and click on the PDF to verify it has been created. You will need a PDF reader to open the document.
