How to Convert an AbiWord File to a PDF File
AbiWord is an open-source word processor that can be downloaded for free online. Though it has its own file formats, its design is based on Microsoft Word and newer versions can save files with the Microsoft Word .doc extension. No matter what version you have, however, AbiWord files can be converted to PDF files without much trouble.
Things You'll Need
- Internet access
Open the file in AbiWord you wish to convert.
Go to "File" and "Save As." At the bottom of the window that pops up you'll see a drop-down menu labeled "Save as type." Select "Microsoft Word (.doc)." Click "Save."
Open your web browser and navigate to Doc2PDF.net (see Resources).
Scroll down to the light blue form. Click on "Browse" and select the new .doc file you just saved. Click "Convert Document" and wait a few seconds.
Click the Disk icon in the upper-left corner of the PDF conversion that pops up to save the PDF to your computer.
Download the free program PDF reDirect (see Resources).
Install PDF reDirect by running the downloaded .exe installer and choosing all of the default options.
Open your AbiWord document and go to "File" and "Print."
Select "PDF reDirect" in the drop-down menu under "Printer Name. Then press "OK." The PDF reDirect program will pop up after a few seconds.
Select "Save" under the form labeled "PDF Output Filename" at the bottom of the screen. Your AbiWord file will be "printed" to a PDF file and saved to the folder specified in the "Folders" section of the PDF reDirect window (the large box on the left).
