Click on the "Add" button, located on the left side of the "Open Media" window. Use the file browser window that appears to locate the MP4 video file that you'd like to convert. After you've selected your file, click on the "Convert/Save" button at the bottom of the Open Media window, to proceed to the "Convert" menu.
Click on the "Browse" button to open a file explorer window to locate a folder on your computer to save the converted "WMV" file. Give your WMV output file a name and then click "Save."
Back in the Convert menu, click on the drop-down menu adjacent to the "Profile" heading, and then select "Video - WMV + WMA (ASF)" from the list of options. Click on the "Start" button in the bottom right corner of the Convert menu to start converting your MP4 file.
Tips & Warnings
- Be patience, some MP4 files can take a while to convert, depending on the file's size and your computer's hardware. You can track the progress of your file's conversion in the main window of VLC Player by monitoring the elapsed time display in the bottom right corner of the program.
- If for any reason you cancel the conversion process, you will need to restart VLC media player and repeat the process. Otherwise the conversion process may not respond on the second conversion attempt.
