How to Convert EPS to Illustrator

By James Crider

Adobe Illustrator is a popular vector graphics editor, designed for creating logos, layout and other images. The standard vector file format uses the EPS extension, and is compatible with many programs, including Photoshop and CorelDRAW. However, Illustrator's default file format is AI. Saving an Illustrator document in the AI format will make it less compatible with other programs, but it will integrate better with Illustrator and save more settings. Converting an EPS file to an AI file is a simple task.

Step 1

Start Adobe Illustrator from the shortcut in your Start menu, desktop or taskbar. Click "File," and then click "Open."

Step 2

Navigate to the folder that holds the EPS file you want to open. Click the EPS file. Click "Open."

Step 3

Click "File," and then click "Save as." Click the "Save as Type" drop-down menu.

Step 4

Click "Adobe Illustrator (*.AI.)" Click "Save." Click "OK." The EPS file has now been copied in the AI format.
