How to Convert Final Draft Files to Word

By KR Knowlin

The Final Draft scriptwriting program allows users to save any Final Draft file (FDX format) as a Rich Text Format (RTF) document for increased file support over various platforms and word-processing applications. Since RTF files are fully compatible with Microsoft Word, you may find it useful to convert a Final Draft file to Rich Text Format to open the file in Word.

Step 1

Open Final Draft. Load the file you want to convert.

Step 2

Open the "File" menu. Select "Save As" from the menu that appears. The Save As dialog opens.

Step 3

Click the drop-down arrow of the "Save As Type" field at the bottom of the dialog. Select "Rich Text Format (*.rtf)" from the drop-down list.

Step 4

Click the "Save" button.
