How to Convert HTML Forms to PDF Format

By Max Power

Converting an HTML form into an Adobe PDF format provides you with the ability to save the file in static form (HTML forms are subject to change over time), attach the file to emails and view the file offline. This conversion can take place either by using your computer's print function or by taking advantage of a web-based, third-party conversion application.

On a Mac

Step 1

Direct your web browser to the website address of the HTML page and the form which you want to convert.

Step 2

Click on the "File" pull-down menu located on your computer screen's top task bar. Choose the "Print" option from the drop-down menu. A pop-up menu option will appear. Located on the bottom left-hand side of this menu is a sub-menu entitled "PDF." Click on this sub-menu and select the "Save as PDF" option. You will now be provided with the opportunity to name the file and save it in a folder of your choice.

Step 3

Open your new PDF file to ensure it has been correctly processed.

On a PC

Step 1

Download a print-to-PDF print driver. Several shareware or freeware drivers, such as the CutePDF Writer, should be available to you at no expense.

Step 2

Click on the downloaded driver and follow the on-screen installation instructions to install the new driver in the same folder as your other print drivers.

Step 3

Utilize your web browser to navigate to the website address containing the HTML page with the form you want to convert.

Step 4

Select the "File" pull-down menu located on your screen's top task bar. Choose the "Print" selection from the drop-down menu. When the print menu is displayed, click on the drop-down menu located by the name of the printer. Choose the name of the PDF driver that you have just installed. Save the file in the folder of your choice.

Use a Third-Party Vendor

Step 1

Visit the PdfonFly.com website. Select the "Convert URL to PDF" option from the front page of the site and enter the web address of the page you wish to convert into the Type URL bar located at the bottom of the page.

Step 2

Click the "Convert to PDF" button. The process will take a minute but when your file has been converted the website will allow you to open it your PDF viewer.

Step 3

Save the file. Select an appropriate name for the file and save it in a folder of your choice.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are a number of PDF print drivers and HTML-to-PDF converter websites available on the Internet in addition to the PdfonFly.com and CutePDF.com websites should these sites not be available.
  • MAC OS X 10.3 will demonstrate a similar but slightly different print-to-PDF dialog then the above example of using a Mac to convert to PDF format. Instead of accessing the "PDF" drop-down menu it will be necessary to click the button entitled "Save to PDF."
