How to Convert M4r to MP3 for Free

M4R is the standard file format for iPhone ring tones. These are the audio clips that play when someone calls you on your cell phone. If you need to convert these M4R files to a more standard MP3 file format, you can do so easily. There are converters you can download for free, conversion websites that will convert the file for you for free, and music management programs that are capable of converting some format.

Step 1

Launch a Web browser and navigate to mediaconverter.org. This is a website that specializes in converting audio files from one format to another. In addition to converting M4R files, you can also convert to many different formats.

Step 2

Click on "Upload a File." A dialog box will appear allowing you to browse your hard drive for the M4R file you want to convert. Select the M4R file and click "OK."

Click "Go to the Next Step."

Use the drop-down menu labeled "Select an Output File Type" to specify that you want to convert the M4R file to an MP3 file. When finished, click "OK."

Step 5

Click "Start." This will upload the M4R file to the Media Converter website to begin the conversion process. The progress will be indicated by the green progress bar. Once finished, click on the name of the file to download it to your hard drive.

Launch iTunes.

Click the "Edit" menu, select "Preferences" and click the "General" tab.

Click "Import Settings."

Choose MP3 Encoder" in the Import Using drop-down menu.

Step 5

Right-click an M4R file and select "Create MP3 Version.” The created file will appear at the top of your music list.

Launch a Web browser and navigate to convert.files.com.

Step 2

Click "Browser" and select the M4R file on your hard drive.

Step 3

Choose "MP3" in the Output Format drop-down menu, and click "Convert."

Click the link to download the file to your computer.
