How to Convert Pagemaker File to a PDF File

By Lynn Richards

You've finally perfected your graphic project in Adobe PageMaker. Now it's time to share that project. To get your document into the hands of everyone who needs it, convert it into a PDF. Unlike PageMaker files, PDF files are cross-platform files that can be printed or sent via email.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe PageMaker
  • PageMaker application CD

Step 1

Install all components of Adobe PageMaker and Adobe Acrobat properly before trying to convert your document. To complete the exporting process, you will need Acrobat Distiller, Acrobat Distiller PostScript Printer Descriptions (PPD) file and Adobe PostScript printer driver. If you need to install these components, insert the PageMaker application CD into your CD drive and run the "Installation Wizard."

Step 2

Open PageMaker. From the "File" menu choose "Open" and select the PageMaker file that you wish to convert to PDF.

Step 3

Click on the "File" menu and choose "Export." Next choose the PDF option.

Step 4

Choose the output option that most meets your need for the job. For example, choose "High Quality Print" for a document intended for printing or "Smallest File Size" for a document that you intend to send over the Internet. Click on your desired job output from the "Job Name" menu in the dialogue box that opens labeled "PDF Options."

Step 5

Click "Export" and wait for the "Save In" menu to open.

Step 6

Highlight the location where you would like to save the PDF file on your computer. Type in a name for the file. If you would like to view your PDF document right away, click "Save." Otherwise, deselect the "View PDF" option and click "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • For further output options, you can change the settings found on the tabs in the "PDF Options" dialogue box. These options let you customize your document so that your PDF file fits the needs required of the job.
