How to Convert Quicktime Movies to Still Picture

QuickTime movie files with the extension ".mov" can be converted into several types of video, audio, and picture files within the QuickTime program. Still pictures can be saved as "jpeg" or "png" files, with alternate options to heighten or lower picture resolution.

Things You'll Need

  • PC or Mac computer
  • Apple QuickTime

QuickTime to Still Image

Step 1

Open your video in QuickTime. Scroll through the movie and pick the frame you want to convert to a still image.

Step 2

Click "File" in the toolbar. Click on "Export." Your new pop-up window named "Save Exported File As..." will contain a pop-up folder named "Movie to QuickTime Movie." Click on the pop-up folder and select "Movie to Picture."

Step 3

You now have the option of choosing your picture's file format by clicking on the tab under "Movie to Picture" titled "Default Settings." Click on the desired picture format.

Step 4

To reduce or expand the size and quality of your photo, click on "Options," located on the right side of your "Save" screen. Click "OK."

Step 5

Back at the "Save Exported File As..." screen, name your photo and choose where your computer will save it.Click "Save."

Tips & Warnings

  • For general use, export your still image as a "jpeg." They are smaller files that are easier to attach to email or post online.
  • "PNG" files are larger and incompatible for upload to most Internet sites.
