How to Copy & Paste on Your iPhone 3.0
Copy and paste, which was introduced to the iPhone in firmware version 3.0, allows you to copy words and images to the iPhone's clipboard and paste them into another location. For instance, strings of text can be copied from notes, web pages and some apps. You can then paste your copied text into notes, SMS/MMS messages, emails, web page text boxes and some apps. Images can be copied from web pages and photo albums on the iPhone, then pasted into MMS messages and emails.
Things You'll Need
- iPhone with firmware 3.0 or greater
Navigate to the item you'd like to copy. If the item is small, place two fingers on the iPhone screen and move them away from each other. This will allow you to zoom in. To zoom out, place two fingers on the screen and pinch them together.
Press your finger down on the item you'd like to copy. If the item is text, try to press down near the beginning of the text you want. If the item is an image, you must be sure that the image is not linked to a web page--linked images are not able to be copied. Your item should be highlighted and one of two bubbles will appear: "Copy," "Select" or "Select All."
If you see a "Copy" bubble, tap it. The bubble will disappear and your text or image will be stored in the iPhone's internal clipboard. If you see a "Select" and "Select All" bubble, tap "Select" to choose your own text to copy or "Select All" to highlight all text. You should now see the "Copy" bubble. Tap it to store your item to the clipboard.
Determine where you'd like to paste your selection. Text can be pasted almost anywhere that text can be typed, such as notes, SMS/MMS messages, emails, web page text boxes and some apps.
Tap the space you'd like to paste in, then hold down your finger for one second and release. If there is text or an image already present, you may be offered three options: "Select," "Select All" and "Paste." If you are pasting into a blank area, you should only get the "Paste" option. Tap "Paste" and your text or image will be placed into the space you selected.
