How to Create a Google Email Account

By Terrance Karter

Google email, or Gmail, is a different approach to email. It allows you to keep all of your messages in one place, or "archived," and has a search function so you can locate any email you wish. Also, messages are stored as conversations, which allows you to more easily find what you need. Setting up a Google email account is free and can be done in less than five minutes.

Step 1

Go to the Gmail site listed in Resources and choose "Create an Account" in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.

Step 2

Fill in your name and then choose a username. Click "Check Availability" to see if that user name is available. If it isn't, Gmail will give you some user names that you might choose to use instead.

Step 3

Complete the registration form. You will need to supply a password, a secret question and answer, your location, your date of birth and a second email address you can use for recovery.

Step 4

Click that you accept the terms of use and choose "Create" to create your account.
