How to Create an FB Page

By Deborah Green

Facebook began as a social networking utility for Harvard students and alumni. But now it is one of the most visited websites in the world, used by millions of people and businesses globally. Facebook "Pages" are intended for businesses, organizations, celebrities or other individuals to broadcast news and information to followers who have "Liked" the page. When you add news or a link to your Facebook page, it will appear on a follower's wall, and is, therefore, an efficient way to update those who are interested in your products or services.

Step 1

Log in to your Facebook account. When logged in, copy or type "" into your browser, without the quotes. A window with six choices such as bands, local businesses and causes will open.

Step 2

Select the choice that is most relevant to the page you want to create. Once you make your selection, a new window will slide up. Its contents will vary slightly depending on the type of organization or business you selected.

Step 3

Choose a category. If your page is about a brand or product, you will need to describe the type of product. If you are making a page for a local business, enter the products or service category the business offers. You could also be asked to enter a name or address, depending on your original category.

Step 4

Click the "Facebook Pages Terms" link. Read the terms and, if you agree, check the "I agree to Facebook Pages Terms" check box. Click "Get Started." Your newly created page will now open.

Step 5

Add photos and news you think visitors to your page will find appealing. Build a fanbase for your page by inviting friends, or invite current customers or fans to join your page by importing a list of email contacts. Every time a friend joins your page, his friends receive a notification. Subsequently, Facebook pages can quickly become viral.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a website or blog, add a button to your site to promote your Facebook Page.
  • You may only make changes to a Facebook Page if you are authorized as a representative of the business owner or subject of the Page. Therefore, you cannot admin a page about your favorite band unless you have permission.
