How to Create Birthday Cards on a Mac

By K.C. Winslow

Apple’s Pages, a part of the iLife suite of applications, is included with the Mac OS X operating system. In addition to word-processing features, Pages has a range of professionally designed document templates for resumes, posters, fliers and cards. Using the birthday card templates as a base, you can create customized birthday cards that are attractive and personal. The card templates are formatted for double-sided printing on your home printer or at a professional print shop.

Step 1

Open “Pages” from the “iWork” folder.

Step 2

Click on “Cards & Invitations” on the left side of the “Template Chooser” window.

Step 3

Select a card template for your birthday card. Press “Choose.”

Step 4

Edit the text of the card by clicking on the text, highlighting it and pressing “Delete.” Change the font face, style, size and color by clicking on the “Font” icon in the upper-right corner of the window.

Step 5

Replace the existing images, if desired, with your own images. Click on the existing image and press “Delete.” Click on the “Media” icon in the upper-right corner of the window to access your iPhoto library. Drag images from the library to the card. You can also drag image files from any other application on your Mac. Resize the images using the white squares around the edge of the window.

Step 6

Go to the “File” menu and select “Print” to print out your birthday card. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for double-sided printing on your printer. You can also save the file to a disc or USB drive and take it to a print shop.
