How to Create Contact Groups in iPhone

The iPhone is one of the most popular cell phones on the market due in part to its various customization features that it offers users. One of these customization features is the ability to organize your contacts by groups, which makes it easier for you to keep track of and locate specific contacts within your cell phone. For example, you can create friends contact groups, work contact groups and family contact groups. If you want to create contact groups in iPhone, you must create them on your Mac computer, then sync them to your iPhone.

Step 1

Open the “Address Book” program of your Mac computer.

Step 2

Click on “File” located in the menu bar at the top of the “Address Book” screen.

Step 3

Click on “New Group” and input the name of your new group into the text box that appears.

Step 4

Sync your iPhone to your Mac computer by connecting the two devices via USB cable. ITunes automatically opens by default.

Step 5

Select “iPhone” from the “Devices” tab of iTunes and configure the “Sync Settings” for your iPhone. Ensure your address book is set to sync with your iPhone to sync your contact groups with your iPhone.

Step 6

Click “Apply” located in the lower-right corner of the screen to sync your contact groups to your iPhone.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your iTunes doesn’t open automatically upon connecting your iPhone to your Mac computer, open the program manually.
  • Beware of disconnecting your iPhone from your Mac while the syncing process is taking place because you could damage your devices by doing so.
