How to Cross Out Words in WordPad

By Craig Witt

Included with the Microsoft Windows operating system, WordPad is a basic word processing tool that allows you to create print-formatted documents such as letters, resumes and flyers. It offers greater formatting options than Windows' basic Notepad application, but fewer choices than commercial software such as Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect. WordPad does, however, give you the ability to cross out words within a document using its strikethrough feature.

Windows 7

Step 1

Highlight the words you want to cross out.

Step 2

Select the "Home" tab from the menu bar at the top of the program window.

Step 3

Look to the "Font" section of the menu bar and click the "Strikethrough" icon, represented by the letters "abc" with a line through them. This icon is located between the "Underline" and "Subscript" icons, directly below the font selection drop-down menu.

Windows Vista and Earlier Versions

Highlight the words you want to cross out.

Step 2

Click "Format" in the top menu bar and select "Font."

Step 3

Check the "Strikeout" box located within the "Effects" section of the resulting dialog box.

Step 4
