How to Customize a Google Homepage

Opening a web browser and finding relevant information on your homepage can be a valuable resource. Google offers iGoogle, a service that allows you to do just that. A customizable page can have a number of services and widgets. Customize your homepage to include your bookmarks, local weather and the the latest scores with iGoogle.

Things You'll Need

  • Google account

Basic Options

Step 1

Log into your Google account. If you don't have one, it is easy to register.

Step 2

Choose the link in the upper right corner for iGoogle. The page you see is a generic homepage.

Step 3

Make it your own. This will be a link with many customizable options under the main search box.

Step 4

Decide on your options. Options that you select will appear on your homepage. The starred options are from third parties.

Step 5

Return to your homepage. All the options you checked will now appear.

Step 6

Rearrange the options. Use the bar on the top of a section to move and drag it to wherever you want it to appear on the page.


Step 1

Find the "Select Theme" link in the upper right-hand side of the page.

Step 2

Select the theme that appeals to you. The theme will change the title bar at the top and the color scheme of the page.

Step 3

Save your theme. Once you have decided on a theme, choose the save button.

Step 4

Pick your country and your city. Your theme will change depending on what time it is.

Add Stuff

Step 1

Add stuff to your iGoogle homepage. This option is next to the select theme. Check the options you would like to appear on the homepage. If it is a third party, it will ask you to verify that you would like that gadget.

Step 2

Return to your iGoogle homepage. Your new gadgets will appear. Rearrange them to wherever you would like them to appear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Google has made it easy to delete options and gadgets as well. Just X them out in the upper right-hand corner.
