How to Delete a Yahoo Search Bar

The Yahoo Search Bar add-on is great as long as you desire to use it. However, when it is not your preferred search method in a sea of available options, it can be the "one too many" piece of clutter on your Internet dashboard, and you can delete the unneeded tool.

Things You'll Need

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 8 or later
  • Mozilla Firefox, version 3.0 or later

Internet Explorer

Step 1

Open IE and then select "Tools."

Step 2

Click "Internet Options" and then go to the "General" tab.

Step 3

Click "Settings" under the "Search" area and beside "Change Default Settings."

Step 4

Click "Search Providers" under "Add-on Types" in the "Manage Add-ons" dialog box.

Step 5

Click "Yahoo Search" and then click "Remove."

Step 6

Click "Close" to exit.

Mozilla Firefox

Step 1

Open Mozilla Firefox and click "Tools" and choose "Add-ons."

Step 2

Go to the "Extensions" tab and click "Yahoo Search Bar."

Step 3

Click "Uninstall."

Step 4

Click the red "X" in the corner of the add-on dialog box to exit.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure absence does not make your heart grow fonder. Test the temporary removal of Yahoo Search by disabling the add-on first.
