How to Delete All Messages in Outlook Express at Once

By J.S. Copper

If you've ever experienced a privacy breach in your home, such as a spouse or child snooping around your computer or perhaps a micromanaging boss spying on your email conversations at work, you need a method to quickly delete your entire Inbox. It is a simple process to easily and efficiently clear out your private messages before they land in the wrong hands.

Step 1

Open Outlook Express.

Step 2

Select the Inbox. Highlight a message within the Inbox.

Step 3

Press "Control" + "A" on your keyboard simultaneously. This will select all messages in your Inbox.

Step 4

Press the "Delete" key. This will mark your entire Inbox for deletion. A strike-through denotes the messages will be deleted.

Step 5

Select "Edit" > "Purge Deleted Messages." This permanently erases all messages marked for deletion.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you've sorted your email into various folders, you may have to purge each folder individually.
  • Before purging the messages, be sure you want to delete all your email. Once you purge (unlike delete), you cannot retrieve those messages.
