How to Delete an Apple Account From an iPod Touch

By James Crider

The iPod touch requires a user's iTunes account to purchase songs and videos, download podcasts, and buy and install apps. If you buy a used iPod or want to use a different account, you'll need to remove the Apple ID associated with the iPod before you can buy or install any new features. There are two ways to do this: a full reset of the iPod software, or signing out of the iTunes Store.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with iTunes
  • USB cable

Signing Out of iTunes

Step 1

Press the "Power" button. Slide the unlock tab to the left.

Step 2

Press the Home button. Tap "Settings." Tap "Store."

Step 3

Tap "Sign Out," then "OK."

Reset

Step 1

Log into your computer. Click the iTunes shortcut on your desktop or "Start" menu.

Step 2

Plug your iPod into the USB cable. Plug the USB cable into your computer.

Step 3

Click your iPod in the left panel. Click "Summary."

Step 4

Click "Restore." Enter your username and password. Wait for the process to complete; this may take up to an hour.

Tips & Warnings

  • Removing the iTunes log-in from an iPod touch may make videos, music or apps inaccessible. Restoring the iPod using iTunes will completely erase all data on the device, then reinstall only basic apps.
