AVG is a leading anti-virus program. At some point, however, whether it is to install a different anti-virus program or to make space on your computer, you may want to delete AVG from your machine. To do this, you must perform a simple uninstall of the program, which can be accomplished by following a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

  • -

Step 1

Close all open browser windows, and all programs you have open on your computer.

Step 2

Click "Start" on your desktop, and then click on "Control Panel."

Step 3

Go to "Add or Remove Programs" if you are operating on Windows XP or an earlier system. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on "Programs and Features."

Step 4

Wait for the list to populate, and then scroll through the list and find AVG. The list is usually in alphabetical order.

Step 5

Highlight or click on AVG. Click "Change/Remove" if you are using Windows XP or earlier. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on AVG and then go to the top of the list where you will see an option for "Uninstall." Click on it.

Step 6

Click "Continue" when you are asked for permission to continue. This occurs in Windows Vista or Windows 7. When you confirm that you want to uninstall, the computer will start deleting folders and files, and it will show you the progress in a status bar in the "AVG uninstall" window. You will be asked if you want to delete user settings or all items in the virus vault. Put a check next to both boxes and continue. Follow the prompts to uninstall the program, which will take only a few moments. To complete the uninstall, your computer will need to be restarted. You will be given the option to restart now or later. Make your choice, and finish the uninstall.
