Footnotes are generally used in Microsoft Word documents to expand on or explain an idea referenced in the main body of the paper. Occasionally, you may want to delete footnotes that either you or another author inserted into the document. Through a few simple steps, you will be able to edit or delete the information inserted into the footnote of a Word document.
Open up the Word document by double clicking on the icon on your computer desktop or from the "Start" menu, locating the document by title.
Locate the footnotes, found at the end of the page. They will be referred to in the main body of the text and referenced by a letter or number.
With the cursor, highlight the footnote you wish to delete and hit the "Delete" key.
