How to Detect a Bug Inside an iPhone

By Mario Calhoun

If iTunes doesn't detect your iPhone when the device is connected to your computer, there might be a problem with the device. You can check it by running the iTunes Diagnostic program. It is a utility tool that scans your computer and iPhone for connectivity issues, then displays data about your device and computer after the scan is complete. The iTunes Diagnostics tool does not correct problems, but it does determine the cause of the issue and suggests solutions.

Things You'll Need

  • IPhone dock connector cable
  • ITunes 8 or later

Step 1

Open iTunes. Insert one end of the dock connector cable into the iPhone and the other end into the USB port on the computer.

Step 2

Click "Help" on the iTunes' menu, then click "Run Diagnostics."

Step 3

Click the "Device Connectivity Tests" checkbox, then click "Next."

Step 4

Click "Copy to Clipboard" or "Save" to save the iTunes Diagnostics report in your computer's word processing program. Click "Close."
