How to Disable Highlight From Craigslist

By Abby Vaun

Your Internet browser saves the URLs of every link you click while you surf the Web. These are known as your search or browsing history. Because of this, every link you click in Craigslist is saved in your browser. When you return to the site, your previously viewed links are highlighted and displayed in purple rather than blue. Although you can't change this feature in Craigslist, you can delete all the Craigslist URLs in your Internet browser. Once you do this, the next time you visit Craigslist, the links will no longer be highlighted.

Firefox

Step 1

Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard, then press the "H" key. A sidebar appears on the left side of your browser with a list of your search history.

Step 2

Type "Craigslist" in the search field that appears in the sidebar. All your Craigslist site visits populate the list.

Step 3

Highlight the "Craigslist" links. To select more than one, right click on the first link, then click somewhere in the blank space below the list. Press and hold the "Ctrl+A" keys on your keyboard to highlight all links in the list.

Step 4

You can also right click the links individually and select "Forget About This Site"

Internet Explorer

Step 1

Press and hold the "Ctrl+H" keys. A sidebar appears to the right of your Internet Explorer (IE) browser.

Step 2

Click "View By Date" and select "View By Site" from the drop-down menu. "View By Date" is located at the top of the sidebar under the "History" tab.

Step 3

Find the "Craigslist" listing in your browsing history. The listing will have the city in which you search on Craigslist. For instance, if you have been on the Los Angeles Craigslist page, it will appear in your search history as "losangeles.craigslist."

Step 4

Right click on the "Craigslist" listing. If you click the link as normal, all of the pages you clicked populate under the listing. By right clicking, you have selected all the pages.

Step 5

Select "Delete" from the menu that appears. Another pop-up appears asking if you are sure you want to delete the item. Click "Yes."

Google Chrome

Step 1

Click the "Wrench" icon in the top right corner of your Chrome browser.

Step 2

Click "History," and then the "Edit Items" link at the top of the page.

Step 3

Click to check the boxes next to the Craigslist URLs.

Step 4

Click "Remove Selected Items," then select "Done Removing Items."
