How to Disable SMS Notifications on a Droid

The standard text messaging application on most Droid phones will cause a notification to appear at the top of your phone when you receive an SMS (Short Message Service) or MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) message. Many third-party messaging applications are available through the Android market that will also send a notification, causing double notices for every SMS message. Turning off SMS notifications on the Droid text messaging application will prevent any double SMS reports.

Press the "Menu" button. Choose “Messaging Settings” from the menu choices. The Messaging Settings has all the applications' settings listed.

Touch the “Text Messaging” application, which will open the settings for the text messaging application only.

Touch the check box next to “Notifications” under the Text Messaging Settings heading to deselect it. The box should not show a check mark to it. This will only disable the notifications you receive from the standard application for text messaging.
