How to Disable Spy Sweeper

Spy Sweeper, a program from Webroot, allows you to search for and remove malicious programs such as viruses, spyware and Trojans. Once you install the program, it launches automatically when you start your computer and runs in real-time to protect your computer. At times, especially when troubleshooting network connections or installing programs, you may wish to disable Spy Sweeper.

Disabling Anti-Virus Shield

Step 1

Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" and click "Spy Sweeper" to launch your program.

Step 2

Click the "Options" button, and select the "Shields" tab on the "Options" menu.

Step 3

Click to remove the check mark from the "Protect against viruses" box under the "Anti-Virus Protection" section. Save your changes and close Spy Sweeper.

Disabling Anti-Virus Sweep

Step 1

Launch Spy Sweeper and click the "Options" button.

Step 2

Click the "Sweep" tab and select the "Custom Sweep" radio button. Click the "Change Settings" link next to "Custom Sweep Settings" in the "Sweep Settings Summary" section. The "Custom Sweep" box launches with various sections.

Step 3

Click the "What to Sweep" button, and click to remove the check mark next to "Sweep for Viruses" in the "Viruses" section.

Step 4

Click "OK" to save your changes and disable Anti-Virus Sweeps.

Disabling Spy Sweeper Automatic Startup

Step 1

Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" and click "Spy Sweeper" to launch your program.

Step 2

Click the "Options" menu and select the "Programs" tab.

Step 3

Click to remove the check mark from the "Load the program at Windows startup" option, and save your changes. Spy Sweeper no longer launches when you start your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can only disable Anti-Virus Sweeps by using the Custom Sweep Option.
