How to Disable the Friend Finder on Facebook

By Sophie Southern

The Facebook Friend Finder: friend or foe? On one hand, it helps you find your friends. On the other hand, it keeps your email address list and automatically asks your non-Facebook friends to join if you don't remove the option. If you want to keep your Facebook profile but also keep your contacts list private, you can actually disable the Friend Finder and deny access to information on your computer.

Step 1

Navigate to and log in to your account.

Step 2

Click the "Friends" link in the left column of your homepage.

Step 3

Click the "Find Friends" link and then click the "manage imported contacts" link just above the email Friend Finder.

Step 4

Scroll down to the "Contacts Imported [not yet invited]) heading. This is where Facebook stores email addresses for your contacts that have not joined Facebook.

Step 5

Scroll to the bottom of the section and click the "Remove all contacts" link.

Step 6

Click the "Remove" button to confirm you want to remove your contacts list from the Friend Finder.
