How to Do a System Retore on a Toshiba Laptop

By Traci Joy

Toshiba manufactures laptops in many models. With the variety they offer, there is something for everyone. But there may come a time when the laptop is not performing as well as it once did. When this happens with your Toshiba, perform a System Restore, which will take your computer's files and settings back to an earlier date when it was functioning properly.

Step 1

Shut down any programs you have running, and close any open browser windows.

Step 2

Click on "Start" from your taskbar on your desktop.

Step 3

Select "All Programs," and then choose "Accessories."

Step 4

Select "System Restore" from the Accessories options.

Step 5

Confirm that you wish to complete a System Restore. At this point, you will be given the option of selecting a "Restore Point." A restore point is the date you want to take your computer's settings back to. You can choose the recommended restore point, which is already selected by default, or you can select the option to "Choose a different restore point."

Step 6

Choose the restore point and click "Next." Allow the computer to work its way through System Restore. This can take a few minutes. At the end of the restore session, your Toshiba will restart itself and then display a message that the System Restore has been successfully completed.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can create your own restore point by clicking on "Start," then "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance," "Backup and Restore Center" and then click on "Create a Restore Point" in the left-side window pane.
  • Performing a System Restore will erase any programs and settings you have put on the laptop since the restore point date.
