How to Double Space a Word Document

Whether you are typing an essay, speech or report, often the purpose of the document requires double-spacing. Microsoft Word easily allows you to change the spacing within the software program to fit the needs of the user.

Step 1

Click the "Format" menu.

Step 2

Select the "Paragraph" option.

Step 3

Click the "Line Spacing" drop-down box.

Step 4

Select the "Double" option in the drop-down box.

Step 5

Click "OK" after changing the line spacing.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have already typed text, highlight the text with your mouse. Press CTRL and 2 as a shortcut for double-space. To return to single-space, Press CTRL and 1.
