How to Download Firefox Without Internet Explorer

By Chris Hoffman

Users normally download Mozilla Firefox by navigating to Mozilla's official Web page and downloading the installer in Internet Explorer, which comes with Windows. If Internet Explorer isn't available on your Windows computer, you can also download Firefox from Mozilla's FTP, or file transfer protocol, server. You can access the FTP server with Windows Explorer and download the installer file without using a Web browser at all. After you download the Firefox installer file, you can install it normally.

Step 1

Click "Start" and click "Computer."

Step 2

Type or copy and paste "ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/latest/win32/en-US/" into the address bar at the top of the Windows Explorer window.

Step 3

Press "Enter."

Step 4

Right-click the "Firefox Setup" .exe file and click "Copy to Folder."

Step 5

Select the folder you want to download Firefox to, in the Browse For Folder dialog box. For example, download Firefox to your desktop by clicking "Desktop" at the top of the window.

Step 6

Click "OK." Windows Explorer downloads the Firefox installer to the folder you selected.
