How to Download Norton Antivirus

By Justin H. Pot

If you use Windows, not using an antivirus of some kind leaves your system unprotected. A variety of viruses, trojans and worms could be using your computer as a base from which to infect other computers without your knowledge. This is why it's important to have quality antivirus software defending your computer, one that's lightweight enough to not get in your way. Norton Antivirus is a program that claims to be just that.

Step 1

Sign up for a free trial of Norton antivirus as Symantec's website (see Resources). Be sure to click the button for the free trial, not the more prominently placed offer to buy the product immediately. Provide the company your email address, your physical address, phone number and your credit card information. Symantec will automatically use your credit card information to purchase an 11-month subscription at the end of your 30-day trial, unless you opt out.

Step 2

Download Norton, now that registration is done. This will be a 21 MB download.

Step 3

Install the program by double-clicking the downloaded installation file and following the on-screen steps---these will include the usual questions such as whether you agree with the software's license, where you'd like to install the program (use the defaults if you're not sure) and whether you want icons put on your desktop.

Step 4

Try the product for 30 days. You may not like Norton because it slows down your computer and doesn't really protect you from viruses very well; if this is the case, you can opt-out by following the link in the Resources section of this article.
