How to Download Outlook

By Diane Dilov-Schultheis

Microsoft Outlook is a handy application created that “provides an integrated solution for managing your time and information, connecting across boundaries and remaining in control of the information that reaches you,” according to Microsoft. It has various features for organizing information, including email accounts, calendars and to-do lists. Microsoft Outlook allows you to share this information with others for work or personal use. You can download Outlook to begin using it right away.

Step 1

Check the system requirements for Microsoft Outlook. Find this information on the Microsoft Store page for Outlook (see Resources below).

Step 2

Go over each requirement listed, such as operating system, browser, processor, and hard disk. Verify that your system meets the requirements before downloading Outlook.

Step 3

Decide what method you want to use to download Microsoft Outlook. The application is sold either separately or as part of various versions of the Microsoft Office suite.

Step 4

Download Outlook for a free 60-day trial period as part of Microsoft Office to try it out before buying if you are not certain you want it. This gives you a chance to use it now and decide later if you want to purchase it.

Step 5

Complete the next two steps to accomplish this. Skip to Step 8 to purchase and download Outlook instead of downloading the free trial version.

Step 6

Click on the link for “Microsoft Office Free Trial Download” in Resources. Click on the “Download Now” button.

Step 7

Fill in the required details to create an account with Microsoft Office Online. Click on “Create My Account” and follow the directions provided to download your free trial copy of Microsoft Office, which includes Outlook.

Step 8

Purchase it separately or as a part of the Microsoft Office suite if you already know you will use it. Compare the prices of Microsoft Outlook sold separately with the available Microsoft Office suites.

Step 9

Use the "Microsoft Store: All Microsoft Office Products" link in Resources to compare products and pricing. Decide what version of Outlook you need (alone or bundled with other Office applications).

Step 10

Click on the product selected. Place a check mark next to either “Full” or “Upgrade” version depending on your needs. Make sure there is a mark next to “Download” under “Delivery Method.”

Step 11

Click on the “Add to Cart” button to purchase and download your software right away. Click on “Checkout Now” to continue.

Step 12

Fill in the information needed for billing address and payment details. Click on “Next” and follow directions to complete purchase and download your product.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you already own a previous version of Microsoft Office, you can purchase and download an upgrade in place of a full version. This is priced significantly lower than the full version.
