How to Download YouTube Videos on Mac OS X Leopard

YouTube does not provide native support for downloading videos to your Mac; by default, you must visit the website each time you want to watch a video. Several Web-based tools allow you to work around this limitation. You can use these apps to save videos on your Mac to view at times when you are not able to connect to the Internet. You’ll also be able to watch a video if the original uploader decides to remove it from You Tube. Learn how to download YouTube videos to your Mac in a few easy steps.

Step

Open Safari or another Web browser and navigate to KeepVid.com, SaveYouTube.com or DownloadYouTubeVideo.org.

Step

Open a second browser window and navigate to YouTube. Locate and begin playing the video that you want to download.

Step

Highlight the full URL of the YouTube video by clicking and dragging with your mouse. A YouTube video URL has the format "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" followed by an alphanumerical string.

Step

Right-click the highlighted URL or press and hold the "Ctrl" key while clicking if you have a one-button mouse. Select "Copy."

Step

Return to the browser tab displaying the YouTube video downloading tool. Right-click or control-click the text input field at the top of the page and select "Paste" to paste the video URL into the field.

Step

Click the "Download" or "Download Now" button.

Step

Click a link such as "Download FLV" or "Download MP4" to download the video in the format of your choice. Note that the download tool at DownloadYouTubeVideo.org only supports the FLV format.
