How to Dry Out a BlackBerry With Rice

By Marjorie Gilbert

BlackBerry phones are the invention of Research in Motion (RIM), a company founded by Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin in 1984. The company introduced its wireless handheld in 2000. Even though the BlackBerry phone is a good phone, even it can accidentally take a swim in a toilet or a sink. When this happens, you need to dry it out. One of these ways is to use rice.

Things You'll Need

  • Towel
  • Bowl or can
  • Rice

Step 1

Remove your phone from the water as quickly as you can manage.

Step 2

Undo the back cover and take out the battery. This will help to preserve the phone's circuits.

Step 3

Slip the SIM card from the BlackBerry. Dry the SIM card on a towel by patting it lightly. Set it aside and let it dry.

Step 4

Dry the BlackBerry with a towel.

Step 5

Fill a bowl or can with dry rice.

Step 6

Push the BlackBerry gently into the rice until it's buried. Leave the BlackBerry in the rice for 24 to 72 hours.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not put in the battery for at least three days. You don't want to run the risk of ruining your phone by putting in a wet battery.
