How to Duplicate My SIM Card

By Nicholas Smith

When you save contacts on your mobile phone, they may be saved to the phone directly, or they may be saved to the SIM card. The SIM card is also used to connect the phone to the service provider's network. You can duplicate the SIM card by transferring contacts to a spare phone, and then transferring contacts from the phone to the new SIM card. Additionally, you can take the SIM card to your provider and have a technician make a copy of the card for you.

Step 1

Locate an unused cell phone. For example, you may have purchased a new phone recently and still have your old device with you.

Step 2

Insert the existing SIM card into the old phone and power on the phone.

Step 3

Copy the SIM card contacts to your phone's internal memory according to your phone's user manual. For example, on Nokia 2600, press "Contacts," "Menu" and "Copy," then press "From SIM Card to Phone." On T-Mobile Shadow, press, "Contacts," "Menu," "SIM Manager," "Menu" and "Contacts to SIM." On Blackberry devices, select "Address Book," "Menu," "SIM Phone Book" and "Copy All to Address Book."

Step 4

Power off the phone. Insert the new SIM card and power on the device.

Step 5

Copy the phone's contacts to the new SIM card according to your phone's User Manual. For example, on Nokia 2600, press "Contacts," "Menu," "Copy" and "From Phone to SIM Card." On T-Mobile Shadow, press, "Contacts," "Menu," "SIM Manager," "Menu" and "Save to contacts." On Blackberry devices, select "Address Book," and click "View" on the contacts to be transferred.
