How to Edit a PDF File in Word

In order to edit a PDF file in Word, you will first need to convert it to a Word compatible format (such as DOC or RTF). To do so, you can use a free PDF converter. Once the file has been converted to the DOC or RTF format, you can edit it with Word.

Using PDF to Word

Step 1

Navigate to the PDF to Word website (see References).

Step 2

Click “Choose File.” Then browse through your computer files to select the PDF file you want to open in Word.

Step 3

Choose “DOC” or “RTF” as the format to convert the PDF file to.

Step 4

Type the email address you want the converted file to be mailed to in the “Email File To” form. Then click “Convert” and the converted file will be emailed to the address you typed into the form.

Step 5

Log in to your email account.

Step 6

Open the email from PDFtoWord.

Step 7

Download the converted DOC or RTF file.

Step 8

Open Word.

Step 9

Click “File,” select “Open” and then browse to select the converted DOC or RTF file you downloaded from your email account. Edit the PDF file in Word to your liking.

Using PDF Online

Step 1

Navigate to the PDF Online website (see References).

Step 2

Click “Choose File.” Then browse through your computer files to select the PDF file you want to open in Word. Then click “Upload and Convert” and the PDF will be converted to a Word compatible document.

Step 3

Right-click the “Download the Word File” link, choose “Save Link As” and select where you would like to save the file on your computer. Then click “Save” to download the converted file to your computer.

Step 4

Open Word.

Step 5

Click “File,” select “Open” and then browse to select the converted document you downloaded. Once open, edit the PDF file in Word to your liking.

Using Free PDF Convert

Step 1

Navigate to the Free PDF Convert website (see References).

Step 2

Click “Choose File.” Then browse through your computer files to select the PDF you want to edit in Word.

Step 3

Choose “Word (doc)” or “RichText (rtf)” as the format to convert the PDF to.

Step 4

Type the email address you want the converted file to be mailed to in the “E-mail Address” form. Then click “Convert Your File” and the converted file will be emailed to the address you typed into the form.

Step 5

Log in to your email account.

Step 6

Open the email from FreePDFconvert.

Step 7

Download the converted DOC or RTF file.

Step 8

Open Word.

Step 9

Click “File,” select “Open” and then browse to select the converted DOC or RTF file you downloaded from your email account. Edit the PDF file in Word to your liking.
