How to Enable a Popup Blocker on Windows XP

By Ann Johnson

Windows XP can be customized by the user to enable or disable the option to use the operating system's pop-up blocker. If you have downloaded other tools onto the computer, such as a Google or Yahoo toolbar, those programs may have their own pop-up blocker feature that needs to be set.

Step 1

Click on "Control Panel" in the start-up menu.

Step 2

Choose "Internet Options" in the screen that opens.

Step 3

Click on the "Security" tab in the Internet Options menu.

Step 4

Scroll down on the Security tab menu and click on "Custom Level".

Step 5

Scroll through the security settings in the menu that opens, and look for "Use Pop-up Blocker". Check Enable.

Step 6

Click "OK" to close the menu.
