How to Enter Recovery for HP Pavilion Dv6000
Performing a system recovery restores your HP Pavilion DV6000 to factory settings. A recovery may be appropriate when you want to delete all data on the drive before selling your PC, when a virus has overrun the computer that cannot be removed by any other means or when the hard drive or operating system files are corrupted. A system restore will erase all of your files, so make sure you have all important data backed up before performing a system recovery.
From the Desktop
Click "Start" if the computer can boot to the Windows desktop.
Type "Recovery" into the search field.
Click "Recovery Manager."
Click "System Recovery" in the "Recovery Manager" window. The computer will reboot.
Click "System Recovery" after the reboot.
Click "No" if the computer prompts you to use Microsoft System Restore.
Select "Back up your files first (recommended)," and click "Next." The system recovery may take several hours to complete.
Press "F11" while the computer is booting if it is unable to boot to the Windows desktop.
Follow the on-screen prompts if the recovery manager can access the recovery partition. If not, see the next section.
Perform Steps 4 through 8 in the section above to complete the recovery.
From a Recovery Disc
Insert the recovery disc if you cannot launch the recovery manager via the desktop or the F11 key. If you didn't create a set of personal recovery discs when you set up your HP Pavilion initially, you can order a recovery disc from HP. If the computer is off, turn it on to boot from the recovery disc. If the computer is on, restart it to boot from the recovery disc.
Press any key when the "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" prompt appears. The recovery disc may take several minutes to load.
Click "System recovery" when the recovery manager appears.
Follow the on-screen prompts to back up files, re-insert the recovery disc, and insert other recovery discs, if required.
Insert the supplemental driver disc if you got one with a replacement recovery disc from HP, click "Skip" if you didn't get one, or click "Next" if you are using a set of personal recovery discs.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the system recovery.
