How to Find a Product Using a UPC Code

By Evan Salveson

Universal Product Codes are used in the United States and Canada on almost everything that is sold by a retail store. UPCs are divided into two different lengths--2-digit codes or 8-digit codes. There are websites and smart phone apps that will allow you to enter a UPC and identify the item to which that code is referring.

Step 1

Click on the UPC resource link in the resources section of this article.

Step 2

Enter the UPC into the search section. The search section will be directly to the left of Look Up UPC. Enter the entire 8-digit or 12-digit UPC.

Step 3

Click on Look Up UPC after you have entered the all the digits. The name, description and country of issue of the product will be displayed.
