How to Find a Saved Password

By Herman Cruz

Computer users perform various tasks on the Internet that require a username and password. For instance, if you have an email, Facebook, Twitter or Youtube account, or if you pay your bills and do your banking online, you will need to set up a username and password to be able to access each account. Because so many Web destinations require a password, Internet browser applications give you the option to save your password when you login to any account. Fortunately, if you need to find a saved password in your operating system, this task can be completed quickly.

Find a Saved Password in Internet Explorer

Step 1

Go to the NirSoft website and download the IE PassView freeware application. Unlike Firefox, Internet Explorer does not have a built-in option that allows you to find saved passwords; therefore, you must download an application to help you find the saved password you are looking for.

Step 2

Scroll down the NirSoft page and locate the download links available below the "Feedback" title. Click on the link that says "Download self-install executable for installing IE PassView with uninstall support" and click on the "Save File" tab displayed on the pop-up box.

Step 3

Click the "Run" tab to run the application and once the process is finished you will be able to view and find any saved password in your Internet Explorer Web browser.
