How to Find a ZIP Code From Entering a Street Address

By Katherine Mitt

In order to send a letter or package through the mail, it is necessary to have the destination ZIP code. The United States Postal Service makes it easy to find a ZIP code if you have the street address and city/state information.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access

Step 1

Be sure that you have a valid street address, including the city and state. Visit the USPS website (see link in References below) and click on the "Find a Zip Code" tab on the left, at the top of the homepage screen. This will direct you to the ZIP Code Lookup service.

Step 2

Type the required street address, city and state information into the form on the USPS ZIP Code Lookup page.

Step 3

Click "Submit," and the ZIP code information for your address will appear.
