How to Find Free Wi-Fi Hot Spots Online Quickly and Easily

By Dustin Lamb

While Wi-Fi networks seem to be almost everywhere, it's a good idea to check if there will be a free network available where you'll need it before you get there. Being able to find free Wi-Fi hot spots can help save you money versus using a cellular data plan. Sites like Hotspotr, JiWire and WeFi maintain databases of free Wi-Fi hot spots that you can search. Select the public network type when you connect to a public Wi-Fi network to protect your computer. Avoid accessing banking and similar sites while on public Wi-Fi networks to prevent identity theft.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not get any results, try adding a different distance radius option.
  • Do not select the "Both" option at the end of the form, chose to find FREE hotspots first.
  • Enter your state and zipcode only, this will bring up results without you having to enter your complete address.
  • Call the wifi hotspot place you want to go to before going to make sure they do offer it to the public, their hours of operation, and exact location.
